What is a crypto ROI calculator?
ROI stands for return on investment. A crypto ROI calculator shows how much you earned or lost on an investment compared with the money you put in. You enter the amount you invested, what it is worth now (or what you sold it for) and any fees you paid. The tool then works out your net profit, your ROI as a percent, your value multiple and, if you add how long you held it, your annualized ROI. It works for any coin, and in any currency from the menu at the top of this page.
How to use this calculator
- Tap your currency at the top, then pick your coin. The live price appears above the boxes, and the chart below follows your coin.
- Type the amount you invested and the final value. The final value is what your coins are worth now, or what you sold them for.
- Add the total fees and other costs you paid, if you want them counted.
- Add how long you held the investment to see your annualized ROI. It is optional.
- Read your net profit, ROI and the target table. Use Copy or Share to keep the result.
How the result is calculated
The calculator uses standard formulas, so you can check every number yourself:
- Net profit = final value − amount invested − fees and costs
- ROI = net profit ÷ amount invested × 100
- Value multiple = final value ÷ amount invested
- Annualized ROI = ((final value − fees) ÷ amount invested)1 ÷ years − 1
- Break-even value = amount invested + fees and costs
- Final value needed for a target = amount invested × (1 + target ROI) + fees and costs
ROI is one of the most common ways to compare how well investments did. Investopedia explains the ROI formula in more detail.
Worked example. You invest 1,000 in Bitcoin. Two years later it is worth 1,500, and you paid 10 in fees in total.
Net profit = 1,500 − 1,000 − 10 = 490. ROI = 490 ÷ 1,000 × 100 = 49.00%. Value multiple = 1,500 ÷ 1,000 = 1.50x.
Annualized ROI = (1,490 ÷ 1,000)1/2 − 1 = 22.07% per year. The break-even value is 1,010.
Why annualized ROI is worth checking
A 49% ROI sounds great, but it means something very different after 6 months than after 5 years. Annualized ROI turns the return into a yearly rate, so you can compare investments that were held for different lengths of time. It assumes a steady rate of growth, which real crypto prices rarely follow, so use it to compare and not to predict.
Where the numbers come from
Live coin prices come from CoinGecko. Currency conversion uses daily exchange rates, so a large amount can differ slightly from what your bank or exchange shows. ROI does not count taxes, spreads or price moves after you sold, so treat the result as an estimate. New to investing? Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between ROI and annualized ROI?
ROI is the total return over the whole time you held the investment. Annualized ROI spreads that return into a yearly rate. Use ROI to see the overall result, and annualized ROI to compare investments held for different lengths of time.
Are fees included in the ROI?
Yes, if you type them in the fees box. They are taken away from your profit before the ROI is worked out. Leave the box at 0 to ignore fees.
What is a good ROI?
There is no single answer. A good ROI depends on the risk you took and how long you held the investment. It helps to compare your ROI with other options, such as holding another coin or keeping the money in a savings account.
What does a negative ROI mean?
It means you lost money. An ROI of −50% means your investment lost half its value after fees, and −100% means you lost everything you put in.
