Advanced options: fees
Leave at 0 to ignore fees. When you enter the amount spent, the fee is taken out of that amount, so you get fewer coins. When you enter coins bought, the fee is added on top of what you paid.
Your average buy price
The price you really paid per coin across all your buys.
Your buys by price (highest at the top). Gold is your average, white is the current price.

What is a crypto average buy price calculator?
When you buy the same coin several times at different prices, your real entry price is not the price of any single buy. It is the average price you paid across all of them, weighted by how many coins you got each time. A crypto average buy price calculator works this out for you. You add each purchase, and the tool shows your average buy price, your total cost and the total number of coins you hold. If you add the current price, it also shows your profit or loss. This is the same idea as dollar-cost averaging, where you buy in smaller steps over time. It works for any coin, and in any currency from the menu at the top of this page.
How to use this calculator
- Tap your currency at the top, then pick your coin. The live price appears above the boxes, and the chart below follows your coin.
- Choose how you want to enter each buy: the amount of money you spent, or the number of coins you bought.
- Type the price and the amount for each buy. Press "Add another buy" for more rows, and use the × button to remove one.
- Add the current price to see your profit or loss. Tap "Use live price" to fill it in. Open "Advanced options" if you want fees counted.
- Press Calculate, then read your average buy price, the price ladder and the sell-price table. Use Download CSV to keep your buys.
How the result is calculated
The calculator uses standard formulas, so you can check every number yourself:
- Coins from one buy = amount spent × (1 − fee) ÷ price. If you enter coins bought, the cost is coins × price × (1 + fee).
- Total cost = the sum of the cost of every buy
- Average buy price = total cost ÷ total coins
- Simple average of your prices = sum of your buy prices ÷ number of buys
- Value at current price = total coins × current price
- Profit or loss = value at current price − total cost
- Sell price for a target profit = average buy price × (1 + target profit)
This is a weighted average, which counts each buy by the number of coins you got. Investopedia explains average cost in more detail.
Worked example. You buy Bitcoin three times and spend 500 each time, at 60,000, then 55,000, then 50,000. There are no fees.
You get 0.008333 + 0.009091 + 0.010000 = 0.027424 BTC for a total cost of 1,500. Your average buy price is 1,500 ÷ 0.027424 = 54,696.13.
The plain average of the three prices is 55,000, but your real average is lower, because the lower prices bought you more coins. If Bitcoin is now 56,000, your position is worth 1,535.76, a profit of 35.76 (2.38%). To reach a 10% profit you need a sell price of about 60,165.75.
Why your average buy price matters
Your average buy price is your break-even point before sell fees. If the price is above it, your position is in profit, and if the price is below it, your position is at a loss. Buying more when the price falls pulls your average down, so you need a smaller rebound to break even. It also pulls your average up when you buy more at higher prices. Keep in mind that adding to a falling position raises your risk, so decide how much you are willing to put in before you start.
Where the numbers come from
Live coin prices come from CoinGecko. Currency conversion uses daily exchange rates, so a large amount can differ slightly from what your bank or exchange shows. This calculator averages your buys only. Tax rules often use other methods to work out cost, such as first-in first-out, so check the rules where you live. New to investing? Frequently asked questions
Why is my average not just the average of my prices?
Because each buy gets more weight when it bought more coins. If you spend the same amount each time, you get more coins at the low price, so the real average ends up lower than the plain average of the prices.
Should I enter the amount spent or the coins bought?
Use whichever you can see on your exchange history. If you know how much money you spent, choose "Amount spent". If you know how many coins you received, choose "Coins bought". The two modes give the same average when the numbers match.
Are fees included?
Yes, if you type a fee in the advanced options. The average buy price then includes the fees you paid. Leave the fee at 0 to ignore fees.
Does it handle sells?
No. It averages your buys only. If you have sold part of your coins, enter only the buys that still count for the coins you hold, or use our profit/loss calculator for a single trade.
